Information we process
We process your sign-in account information, language and time-zone preferences, selected documents and images, extracted text, questions, AI explanations, reminders, subscription status and usage counts. Documents may contain personal, financial or health information. Please send only documents you have permission to use.
AI processing and your permission
Before AI processing, PaperClear asks you to agree to send selected document images, files and text, questions and requested language to Anthropic for explanations. When enabled, LlamaCloud/LlamaParse processes documents to extract text. These are external services and their processing is governed by their applicable terms and privacy policies. AI output can be incorrect and does not replace medical, legal or financial advice.
You can withdraw permission in Settings. Withdrawal prevents new AI requests and pauses pending uploads; processing already started cannot be recalled. You can still read, export and delete existing documents.
Cloud storage and service providers
Google Firebase provides account authentication, document storage, database services, notifications and crash reporting. RevenueCat and Apple process subscription purchases and entitlement status. PaperClear does not receive your full payment-card details. Firebase App Check uses device/app attestation to help prevent abuse. Cloud processing may occur outside your country.
Advertising
Free users may see Google AdMob banners and interstitial ads. AdMob may process device information, advertising identifiers when permitted, ad interactions and consent choices. Where required, we request advertising consent and tracking permission. You can manage advertising choices through Ad privacy options in Settings and device privacy controls. Premium users are not shown ads. Document contents are not provided to AdMob for ad targeting.
Notifications and diagnostics
With notification permission, we register a Firebase messaging token to send deadline reminders. Notification content may be visible on your lock screen; control previews in device settings. Crash reports may include technical errors, device and OS details, locale, region and an account identifier. We do not intentionally include document content in crash reports.
Retention
Documents are kept for 30 days by default. Free users can also select deletion after processing. Premium users may choose 365 days or indefinite storage while subscribed. Choosing a different period applies to existing and future documents after confirmation. Shorter periods can permanently delete documents. After Premium expires, longer retention is capped at 30 days after expiry; earlier deletion dates are preserved.
Automatic cleanup runs daily, so physical deletion may follow the expiration time by up to a day under normal operation. Failed cleanup is retried. Temporary exports are removed after their short retention period; download links expire sooner. Local pending uploads remain on your device until uploaded or removed. Service providers may retain operational or legally required records under their policies.
Your choices and deletion
Use Settings to change preferences, withdraw AI permission, export your data or delete your account. Account deletion removes app data and authentication records; interrupted deletion can be retried. A minimal deletion marker is kept to prevent delayed processing from restoring deleted data. Deleting an account does not cancel an Apple subscription; manage it separately through your Apple account. Contact us for privacy requests or questions.
Security and changes
We use authenticated access controls and encrypted network connections. No system can guarantee absolute security. We may update this policy as the service changes and ask for renewed AI-processing permission when that disclosure changes.
